If you want to get healthy, then you start eating well and making a point to exercise. However, this kind of lifestyle will only take you so far. Here are some of the ways you could be neglecting your health.



First of all, you might not be getting enough sleep. This is probably the most often neglected part of our health. It’s also one of the most important to deal with. Just a single night of sleep deprivation can increase your calorie intake, and severely alter our hormones. The hormones leptin and ghrelin are affected the most by sleep deprivation. These both have important roles in controlling how much we eat and how much of our food is stored as fat. An imbalance of these hormones is one of the common factors contributing to obesity. If you’re not getting your eight hours, or you have trouble dropping off, then change some of your habits. One thing that could help is setting a cut-off point for screens, at least an hour before you go to bed.



Stress management is another commonly neglected area of our health. Some people think that stress is fundamentally harmless, or an exclusively mental factor. In actual fact, stress is a very real health issue, with both mental and physical effects. Although you may feel that exercise is your perfect stress relief, it acts as a stressor for the sympathetic nervous system. You need to balance this out by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which deals with rest.



Meditation, listening to music, a relaxing hobby, or going for walks could all be ideas. Whatever it is that gets you relaxed, make sure it’s part of your health regime. This will help you to think more clearly, and avoid the negative effects of stress.



You need to make sure you’re not neglecting your dental health either. If this sounds like a given, then great! However, a shocking number of people never visit the dentist for check-ups, and fail to maintain some good health habits. If you know you’ve been far too long without a check-up, then visit a dentist’s website and book a slot. They’ll be able to show you where you’ve been going wrong, and repair any untreated conditions. There are a few good habits you should be adopting right now as well. Flossing, although some people treat it as optional, should really be part of your tooth care routine. It’s also pretty common for people to brush their teeth too hard, and wear down the enamel. Certain foods may also be doing more harm than you realise. Consult a professional, and ensure you’re not neglecting your oral health.
